On June 30, 2023, a solemn graduation of students of the preparatory department for foreign citizens took place at the Tver State Medical University. 28 graduates from far and near abroad from Gabon, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Turkey, Sudan, Germany, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan became holders of certificates of completion of the preparatory department. During the academic year, under the guidance of experienced teachers, students studied the Russian language, chemistry, biology, physics, got acquainted with the history and culture of Russia.

With warm congratulations and wishes of success in further studies, the graduates of the preparatory department were addressed by the head of the preparatory department, head of the Russian language department A.A. Kuznetsova, head of the department for work with foreign students D.A. Gavrilenko.

Kind words to graduates were heard from the professor of the Chemistry Department N.P. Lopina, Associate Professor of the Chemistry Department A.E. Sobolev, Associate Professor of the Biology Department I.V. Struchkova, senior lecturer of the Biology Department N.V. Isakova.

From the graduates of the preparatory department, response words of gratitude were addressed to the leadership and teaching staff of the Tver State Medical University. We wish all our dear graduates of the preparatory department strength, energy, determination and successful admission to the faculties of Tver State Medical University!

In accordance with the order of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education Tver State Medical University dated March 22, 2023 No. 243, the submission of documents required for admission for training in specialist programs for paid educational services in the specialty 31.05.01 General medicine using the English language begins on 1 September 2023.

On May 17, 2023, as part of the work of the International Friendship Club of the Tver State Medical University with the support of Vice-Rector for International Affairs R.N. Chirkov, vice-rector for educational work and youth policy S.A. Sokolov, Department for Work with Foreign Students, the Department of Russian Language organized a bus tour to the City of Military Glory Rzhev and the ancient Russian city of Staritsa for members of the International Friendship Club, who actively participate in the social and cultural life of our university. 45 foreign students took part in the event, the purpose of which is to foster tolerance in interethnic relations, respect for the history and culture of the country of the language being studied - Russia. The tour was conducted by an experienced guide - a military historian and archaeologist.

On May 12-14, a field training seminar «Information and spiritual security of modern youth» was held in the Pokrovskoye Recreation Center in the village of Pokrovskoye, Odintsovo district, Moscow region, where the Interclub of Tver State Medical University took part.

The organizers are the All-Russian Movement for Promoting Friendship and Harmony among Young People «All-Russian Interethnic Youth Union», the International Islamic Mission Center, the Scientific, Methodological and Project Center for Strengthening Interethnic Friendship and Citizenship of the State University of Management under the Coordinating Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia with the support of the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of the City of Moscow.

The main goal of the program is to teach the skills of critical thinking and emotional intelligence, to counteract the manipulation of consciousness, to popularize traditional spiritual and moral values.

On April 28, 2023, a cultural event dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War was held in the conference hall of the Tver State Medical University. The literary and musical composition "Victory Day: Immortality of the Great Feat" was prepared and presented by the members of the International Friendship Club with the support of the Department for work with foreign students, the Department for educational work and teachers of the Russian language department.

On April 27, Tver State Medical University was visited by His Excellency Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Benin Mr. Akambi Andre Okunlola Biau as part of the delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Benin, which also included the Administrative Secretary of the Embassy Mr. Leopold Jean Victorien Grimaud and the politician of the Tver region Mr. Jean Gregoire Sagbo. The meeting was attended by Vice-Rector for International Affairs Roman Nikolayevich Chirkov, Vice-Rector for the Implementation of National Projects and Regional Health Development Alla Valentinovna Solovyova, Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Youth Policy Sergey Aleksandrovich Sokolov, as well as a second-year student of the Faculty of Pharmacy Gbenagnon Unton Aniset Sedo Pedro. Representatives of the delegation of the Embassy and representatives of the Rectorate of the Tver State Medical University discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the Tver State Medical University and the University of Benin, the issues of training highly qualified medical personnel and the exchange of teaching experience in the field of medical education. Mr. Ambassador highly appreciated the level of training of students of the Tver State Medical University and noted that this meeting would be the starting point for mutually beneficial cooperation.

The traditions of this wonderful holiday are supported by colorful rituals. Indians decorate themselves with bright fresh flowers, and the roofs of houses with small lights and orange flags. And, of course, the feeling of a holiday is given by multi-colored fountains of colors flying into the air, cheerful music and joyful faces.

From February 20 to February 26, 2023, in accordance with the plans of the educational work of the TSMU, the educational work of the Department of the Russian Language and the International Friendship Club, the teachers prepared and conducted a number of linguistic and cultural events for students under the general name «Great Maslenitsa!» Thanks to participation in events dedicated to the celebration of Maslenitsa, foreign students got acquainted with the history and culture of one of the most ancient Russian holidays: its symbols, entertainment, games, features of Russian national cuisine, expanded their vocabulary. Foreign students watched fragments of the best Russian films and musical works related to Maslenitsa. Then a linguistic competition took place, during which students performed tasks related to the topic of the presentation. At the end of the event, students tasted delicious pancakes.

Winter in Russia is not only ice, cold wind, short days and long nights. Russian winter is a fun time of the year when you can play snowballs, build a snowman and, of course, go skiing or ice skating. This Sunday, February 12, the students of the preparatory department of the TSMU from Syria, Sudan, Ecuador and Iraq spent actively - at the sports ski base in Chupriyanovka, where they first skied, made an exciting journey through the fabulous winter forest, rode down the hill and made many beautiful photos. After that students warmed up with a cup of hot tea and shared their impressions of the event.

The Tver Regional Universal Scientific Library named after A. M. Gorky opened its doors again for new readers at the beginning of 2023. They were foreign first-year students of the Tver State Medical University from India. The teachers of the Department of the Russian Language, with the support of the Center for International Education, organized for them an acquaintance with the main library of the Tver region.

On January 17, the InterClub of the Tver State Medical University hosted the third meeting of the Conversation Club on the topic "Doctor is my profession. Conversations about the medical specialty."

Students from Russia, Uzbekistan, India, Yemen, Syria talked with doctors, representatives of the Council of Veterans of Medical Workers in Tver, about choosing a medical specialty, about teachers - mentors, about the most difficult thing that experienced doctors had to face during their work.

Pediatrician Tatyana Yuryevna Moreva spoke about her professional path in medicine, choosing the specialty "pediatrician" and why pediatrics is a complex and very interesting profession. Tatyana Yurievna also shared the secrets of working with young patients and the principles of behavior with patients.

The professional career of an infectious disease specialist Olga Nikolaevna Marasanova is connected with the family dynasty of doctors: her grandfather, father, husband, and son all devoted their lives to medical practice. According to Olga Nikolaevna, the decisive factor for making the correct diagnosis and prescribing the correct treatment is a conversation with the patient and a thorough examination of the patient, a step-by-step collection of anamnesis.

Summarizing the above, both doctors drew the attention of the audience to the most important thing for the medical profession:

• you need to learn everything from experienced doctors;

• it is necessary to master medicine as an art, to constantly improve yourself;

• a doctor is an artist, he must come out of any situation with honor;

• it is important to treat the patient humanly, because "that doctor is bad, after whose visit the patient did not feel better";

• the doctor should not be impatient, irritable: "medicine is first of all love for a human, otherwise it is worth nothing".

The formation of the patient's trust in the doctor and the presence of faith, where the example for the doctor should be the life and work of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the surgeon Luke of Crimea.

At the end of the meeting, the students asked the guests questions about how to deal with the fear that arises in a doctor; what is missing in modern medicine; what books and textbooks are worth reading.

 The next meeting of the Conversation Club will take place on March 21 at 16:00. Topic: "National hero - who is he? Conversations about the national character."

On November 9, the first Conversation Club on the topic «My life is Medicine» took place in the Interclub of Tver State Medical University. The invited guest was the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Oncology, Surgery and Palliative Medicine Roman Nikolaevich Chirkov.

At Tver State Medical University, the International Friendship Club hosted a celebration of Diwali, also known as the Fire Festival, the biggest Indian holiday, on October 26. Tver transformed into a little India for one evening, complete with vibrant colors and customs.

Lyudmila Georgievna Yuga, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, member of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation, and honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, opened the exhibition of plein-air works by Russian artists titled "India - Russia: through the eyes of love" in the assembly hall's foyer.

Professor Lesya Vasilyevna Chichanovskaya, rector of Tver State Medical University, gave the concert's opening address. She mentioned the university's long-standing, productive cooperation with India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal in the area of higher medical education, mentioning how entire dynasties of doctors who received their education in Tver had grown. Lesya Vasilyevna remarked that these connections are crucial to the institution and that welcoming new members into our large and hospitable international family is always rewarding.

The evening was concluded with a lively, engrossing, and energetic musical program, during which Indian students performed traditional songs and dances for the audience, national costumes were displayed in all their vibrant glory, and a yoga master class was held. In the interactive part of the show, a choreographed flash mob and a Sanskrit knowledge quiz were also held. The event provided a wealth of information on Indian culture and global Diwali celebration practices.

Everyone learned a lot of new things at the festival, and Indian students responded to every performance with a flurry of applause and emotions. This, of course, speaks not only about their homesickness but also about their gratitude to the university for the chance to spend one evening feeling at home.

Recently, Roman Nikolaevich Chirkov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Associate Professor Head of the Department of Oncology, Surgery and Palliative Medicine of Tver State Medical University, will answer the most frequently asked questions that interest not only students, but also applicants, as well as their parents.

– Roman Nikolaevich, please tell us, how one would define the situation in Tver generally and at Tver State Medical University precisely, due to the current world events.

– First off, I would caution foreign applicants who are considering our University for admission to stay calm and not to believe everything they hear in the various worldwide media. Not all of them are accurate. Once you are here, you can see for yourself that Tver is very calm city where it is safe to live and study.

– How are things going with studying in English at your university?

– We are proud to report that today our university successfully provides students from the 1st to the 6th year with high-quality education in English. This fact is confirmed by the recognition in the system of medical councils of different countries, such as Sri Lanka and India. However, we do not stop there, we constantly improve the quality of teaching, strive to get international recognition scales and have high ratings in the system of international medical education.

– You mentioned the constant desire to improve the quality of education, in this regard, what can be said about modern technologies at your university?

– Our Medical University provides a high level of education in both Russian and English, using the latest technologies for this, confidently improving the quality of teaching every year.

– You have a large number of foreign students studying here, how well are they provided with places to stay?

– You are right, we have many foreign students, and this year an unprecedented high competition is expected for admission. But there is enough space for everyone in our comfortable and equipped dormitories. Recently, a high-quality renovation was done there, the rooms are being actively prepared for the arrival and settlement of new students.

– We are talking about English-speaking students, but are there any foreigners who study in Russian?

– Yes, I would like to note that this year was extremely successful in terms of recruiting students from countries of former USSR. About 200 people enrolled in specialty, residency and postgraduate programs. I also repeat that an unprecedented high competition is expected among foreigners from far abroad who will study in English.

– You have students from different countries, how do students get along with each other outside study time? Does your university have extracurricular classes for students?

– Of course, there are many different directions for extracurricular activities at our university. Students will have intense life. Everyone can find an interesting and useful activity for themselves. We have Club of International Friendship, in which students organize and conduct various cultural events, participate in concerts, visit interesting places with excursions, and learn a lot about the culture and customs of different peoples. There are also scientific communities, volunteer movements, and sports sections. It is very pleasant to see how our students from different countries act as a single well-coordinated team. We are all one friendly international family here, where a peaceful and friendly atmosphere reigns. You are always welcomed to our Tver State Medical University.

The International Friendship Club of Tver State Medical University continues to acquaint students with the history and sights of the city of Tver. On September 26, 2022, teachers of the Department of Russian Language organized and conducted an excursion for first–year foreign students to the Tver Regional Universal Scientific Library named after A.M. Gorky - the oldest library in our city.

International Friendship Club of Tver State Medical University and teachers of the Department of Russian language organized and conducted a bus tour to the ancient Russian city of Staritsa and the City of Military Glory of Rzhev for foreign students of our university on September 21, 2022.

During the tour, the children got acquainted with significant corners of the Tver land, learned many interesting and important facts related to the history and culture of our region.

On September 19, 2022, foreign students of the 1st year of TvSMU took part in a bus tour of the city of Tver.

During this excursion, students got acquainted with the basic information about the city in which they will live and study, learned interesting facts about the history of the Tver land, about its outstanding personalities. An experienced guide told medical students about the architectural features of our city that have developed as a result of historical development. The students visited the most beautiful and significant corners of Tver, such as Travel Palace, walked along the embankment, heard the story of the Tver merchant and traveler Afanasy Nikitin. The students were most interested in a visit to the oldest Tver temple, the White Trinity, and the guide's story about the specifics of Orthodox culture.

We hope that this excursion will be a good contribution to expanding the knowledge of foreign students about Tver, and this city will stay their favorite second home for a long time!

Within the framework of the International Friendship Club (abbreviation sounds in Russian as KID) first-year students of the Faculty of Dentistry of TvSMU from Iraq, Iran, the Syrian Arab Republic, Sudan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine visited the photo exhibition of the charity project "I am here!", which was deployed on the central alley of the Tver City Garden. The students were greatly interested in the works of Tver photo artists depicting children and teenagers suffering from mental disorders. Foreign students appreciated the artistic merits of the photographs, but the main thing is that they were able to touch the special world in which children with special needs live.

The teachers of Department of Russian Language of TvSMU (responsible. – Associate Professor E.D. Aksenova) organized the excursion to the photo exhibition. Therefore, before visiting the photo exhibition, students performed lexical and grammatical tasks, worked with texts about the attitude to disabled people in modern society, about the role of volunteers in their lives. Visiting the photo exhibition was a good opportunity for foreign students to immerse themselves in the language environment, which helped to overcome language difficulties in communication and social and cultural adaptation of future doctors.

This is the name of the cultural event, that was attended by first-year students of the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry from Iraq, Iran, the Syrian Arab Republic, Sudan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. The linguistic and cultural lesson-excursion "Tver is the city where I study", developed by the teachers of the Department of Russian Language of TvSMU (Associate Professor E.D. Aksenova, Associate Professor N.A. Budanova, senior lecturer L.G. Vitlinskaya, assistant A.V. Nekrasova), according to the work plan for curators, traditionally takes place at the beginning of the academic year. So, this time, acquaintance with the historical and cultural heritage of our ancient city began with preliminary language work in the classroom, and then foreign students went on a walking educational and thematic tour to the historical center of Tver. The first-year students visited the square near the Travel Palace and the Transfiguration Cathedral, the monuments to Pushkin and Mikhail Tversky, on the embankment of the Volga River and in the City Garden, on the territory of which the Tver Kremlin, built in the XII century, was located. Foreign students got acquainted with the history of these interesting places.

The event helps to form general cultural competencies, social and cultural adaptation of foreign students. Immersion of foreign students in the language environment allows to overcome language difficulties in communication, the formation of interest and respect for the historical and cultural heritage of Russia, the development of intercultural communication.

On September 9, Tver State Medical University held the meeting of the university administration and delegation from the Republic of Sri Lanka consisting of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Professor Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage, Rector and Professor of Sri Jayawardenepura University Sudantha Liyanage, teachers of Sri Jayawardenepura University Pasindu Liyanage and Naduni Ranasinghe.

The Department of International Students Affairs congratulates you on the end of the academic year! On June 30, Tver State Medical University held a solemn presentation of certificates of completion of training to students of the preparatory department for foreign citizens. This year, 25 students from Egypt, Israel, India, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Syria, and Ecuador successfully graduated from the preparatory department.

Tver State Medical University awarded diplomas to its graduates. This year, more than 500 young specialists, including 149 foreign citizens, have left the walls of the educational institution for adulthood.

The solemn ceremony of awarding diplomas to young specialists was held in the large assembly hall of the Tver State Medical University. Dentists, pediatricians, pharmacists have sworn to always honorably fulfill their medical duty.

"On behalf of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, today I cancongratulate you on one of the most important events in your life - graduation from university and obtaining a medical or pharmaceutical education. Another important step has been taken, another step on the way to the top of success and well-being has been overcome. You have chosen a difficult but noble profession - to serve people by providing medical care, honestly performing medical duty, constantly improving your professional skills, saving people's lives.
For everyone, the student years were different: a life lesson, a new discovery, or just another stage in achieving the desired goals. But one thing I can say with certainty that it was within the walls of the university that the filling of knowledge, skills, competencies and just life experience took place, which in the future will become the basis of successful work.
I would like everyone to remember the students with joy, and the teachers with gratitude. After all, they, giving you not only their knowledge, but also the warmth of their hearts, tried to make you better. On June 9, 10 and 15, 2022, foreign students of the 1st year of Tver State Medical University had an excursion to the Museum of Tver Everyday Life. The expositions of this place clearly represent the urban culture of Russia of the XVIII–XIX centuries.

The management of the International Innovation Club "Archimedes" invited representatives of the University to take part in the 64th International Fair of Technologies and Technical Achievements, which this year took place from May 24 to 27 in Belgrade. The oldest and most prestigious technology forum in Europe traditionally is held in the city's Expocenter and is marked with the badge of the World Association of Exhibition Events (UFI).

Tver Regional Universal Scientific Library named after A.M. Gorky has gained new readers. They were foreign first-year students of Tver State Medical University from Sri Lanka, India and Iran, for whom the teachers-curators of the Department of Russian Language, with the support of the Center for International Education, organized an excursion to the main library of the Tver region.

May 25 is Africa Day, African Freedom Day, annually dedicated to the anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity, whose activities are dedicated to the ideals of peace, development and prosperity.

Russia and African countries have a rich history of relations, including the field of higher education. African students began to come to study at our universities back in the late 1950s, and after the creation of the Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University (now RUDN University) in 1960, their number grew every year.

The main specialties chosen by African students at Russian universities today are largely related to the medical field. And in 1962 (60 years ago!), Tver State Medical University was among the first in Russia to start educating students from African countries. Since then, it has become not just a tradition, but one of the priority areas of educational activity. We are proud of each of our graduates, and over the years, thousands of excellent medical, dental and pediatric doctors have left the Tver "alma mater".

Every year on May 24, the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture is celebrated - the only church and state holiday in Russia, which is a reminder to all of us about the origins of our spirituality, that Russian culture inherits the ancient and great traditions of Slavic culture, about the role of writing in its formation and development. Currently, scientific forums are dedicated to this holiday, festivals, exhibitions, book fairs, poetry readings, amateur art shows, concerts and other various cultural events are held.

Each culture is unique and original and reflects the diversity of our civilization. This is the value of different cultures, but at the same time they form a unity. In order to strengthen international dialogue, which is the basis for the prosperous development of society, the World Day of Cultural Diversity, established by the United Nations, is held annually on May 21, with the aim of deeply understanding the value of cultures of different peoples and developing cooperation between them.

Tver State Medical University, where students from different countries study, supports the ideas of multiculturalism and international cooperation. We love and appreciate our native culture, introduce students from different parts of the world to it, but also strive to learn more about the culture of other nations whose representatives study in Tver. As part of the work of the International Friendship Club with the support of the Center for International Education of TvSMU, on May 23, 2022, the Kaleidoscope of Cultures festival was held, organized by the Department of Russian language, during which foreign students represented the culture of their countries. The participants and spectators of the festival were lucky enough to make a kind of "journey" to different parts of the world, get acquainted with various traditions and customs, plunge into a new world for them.

On May 18, 2022, as part of the social and cultural adaptation of the Preparatory Department students, the Department of Russian Language, with the support of the Center for International Education, organized an excursion to the Museum of Tver Everyday Life. This event coincided with the annual All-Russian action "Night of Museums" in the Tver region. Thanks to this action, the students of the Preparatory Department from Egypt, Israel, India, Yemen, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ecuador had the opportunity to get acquainted with almost all the expositions displayed here.

The Vice-Rector for International Affairs, R. N. Chirkov, and the Head of the Center for International Education, A. G. Ivanov, hold meetings with foreign students in accordance with the schedule.

The purpose of the meetings is to explain to students the norms of legislation establishing responsibility for the promotion of terrorist activities and the spread of extremist ideology. Particular attention will be focused on the inadmissibility of destructive behavior and the rules of living in hostels, compliance with which allows you to effectively counter the terrorist threat and minimize the possibility of terrorist acts.

The Vice-Rector for International Affairs, R. N. Chirkov, answers students' questions concerning education, passing intermediate certification, everyday life and living standards in hostels.

Russian language teachers organized and conducted a bus tour to the ancient Russian city of Staritsa and the City of Military Glory Rzhev for foreign students of 1-4 courses on May 12, 2022, as part of the work of the International Friendship Club of Tver State Medical University with the support of the Vice-Rector for International Affairs R.N. Chirkov, Head of the Center for International Education A.G. Ivanov. 54 students took part in the event, the purpose of which is to foster tolerance in interethnic relations, respect for the culture of the country of the language being studied.

The International Friendship Club has started its activity at Tver State Medical University with grand opening that took place on April 28, 2022. Our university (then Kalinin State Medical Institute) opened its doors to students who came to the USSR from different countries to become a doctor 60 years ago. In a multinational family of medical students, the word "friendship" sounded in different languages of the peoples of the world.

In early April, for students of the 1st and 3rd courses of the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy from Benin, Israel, Egypt, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, an excursion to the Tver Art Gallery took place, which was a logical continuation of the lesson on the topic "Russian Art". This educational event, organized by teachers of the Department of Russian Language (E.D. Aksenova, L.G. Vitlinskaya, N.N. Tolkacheva, E.Y. Borodina), was preceded by a lot of preparatory work: at the lesson-presentations "Types of art. Russian Landscape" students got acquainted with the vocabulary on the topic of "Art", completed lexical and grammatical tasks, read texts about Russian artists. During the tour, future doctors saw pictures of the great Russian landscape painters – Levitan, Repin, Shishkin, Aivazovsky, learned important facts about the life and work of the artists. In addition, the students were interested in the history of the Tver Imperial Travel Palace, and they also had the opportunity to visit an exhibition dedicated to the Russian portrait.

The excursion to the art gallery allowed to expand information about the historical and cultural heritage of Tver, and immersion in the language environment helped to overcome language difficulties in communication. Familiarity with the best examples of Russian artistic culture greatly contributed to the formation of general cultural competencies and social and cultural adaptation of foreign students.

April 12 is an important date in the history of all mankind. On this day 61 years ago, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin was the first in the world to successfully fly into space. A cultural event dedicated to this event was held at the Department of Russian Language - a linguistic and cultural lesson "April 12 – Cosmonautics Day". Foreign students of the preparatory department from Egypt, Israel, India, Iraq, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan got acquainted with an important event that marked the beginning of human space flights.

06.04.2022 as part of the social and cultural adaptation program, the students of the Preparatory department of TSMU visited one of the most famous and favorite sights of Tver - the Imperial Travel Palace. Built at the end of the 18th century by order of Empress Catherine II, the palace still pleases residents and guests of the city with its architecture and interior decoration.

Students from Syria, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Morocco, Mauritania, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, India, Nigeria, Lebanon and Egypt were able to fully appreciate the beauty of this place by visiting an excursion organized by teachers of the preparatory department, assistants N.Y. Gribovskaya and M.N. Pavlova.

After walking through the halls of the Imperial Travel Palace, the students of the preparatory department got acquainted with the works of artists of various times and countries. The students were particularly impressed by the numerous household items, as well as the hall dedicated to the history of the Russian Church with samples of church paintings presented there. The students appreciated the interior of the palace, especially noting the Ceremonial hall, where previously events with the participation of the local aristocracy were held and lavish balls were arranged.

Foreign students of the 2nd and 3rd courses of the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry became participants of the cultural and educational event - the lesson–conference "Famous doctors of anticient and modern times", which was held by teachers of the Russian Language Department of TSMU (responsible - Associate professor E.D. Aksenova and assistant E.Y. Borodina). Thirteen reports, accompanied by a multimedia presentation, were devoted to the life and work of famous Russian and foreign doctors. The students prepared reports not only about doctors who have received recognition all over the world – Abu Ali ibn Sina (Avicenna), R. Koch, N.I. Pirogov, A.I. Evdokimov, but also about doctors whose names are widely known in the native countries of students – H.H. Mansurov (Tajikistan), M.A.O. Topchibashev (Azerbaijan), Sahile Najar (Syria), N. Tachmuradov, G. Berdimuhammedov, M. Garyev (Turkmenistan). The active interest of the participants of the lesson-conference was aroused by reports on the scientific and practical activities of doctors-scientists of our university – R.I. Gavrilova and B.N. Davydov. At the end of the event, the speakers answered questions. Then all participants completed lexical and grammatical tests and assignments within topic of the lesson-conference.

The event was a powerful incentive for foreign students to further study the life and professional activities of famous doctors, to reveal the creative potential and personal realization of future doctors. Immersion of foreign students in the language environment, of course, contributed to their social and cultural adaptation and overcoming language difficulties in communication.

On March 23, 2022, as part of the curriculum for the study of special subjects in Russian (mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry), students of the Preparatory Department from Tajikistan, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Syria, Nigeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Ecuador, Lebanon, India, Yemen, Israel visited the museum of entertaining sciences "Experiment Land".

During the interactive tour, the audience got acquainted with the museum's exhibits that clearly demonstrate the laws of physics: they were able to measure the strength of their voice, sit on nails, catch lightning, play unusual musical instruments, take interesting photos with a prism, etc. The exhibits of the museum helped the students of the Preparatory Department to see and understand how the laws of mechanics, electrodynamics, acoustics, optics, and statics work.

We live on a planet inhabited by different peoples. Each of them has its own traditions, customs, and its own history. There are many of us, we differ from each other in appearance, views, interests, but we all should live in peace and harmony. After all, we breathe the same air; we walk on the same ground. Russia is a huge state; more than 143 million people representing more than 160 nationalities live here. That is why we feel the concept of people’s friendship as a comprehensive fraternal cooperation and mutual assistance of peoples and nations, which is one of the driving forces of the development of society.

Tver State Medical University, where students from all over the world study, successfully participating in international cooperation, contributes to the development of friendly relations between countries and peoples. As part of this work, the Vice-Rector for International Affairs of TSMU Roman Nikolaevich Chirkov initiated the opening of an International Friendship Club. The Rector of Tver State Medical University, Professor Lesya Vasilyevna Chichanovskaya, supported his suggestion.

The authors of the project set up the following goals:

- promoting the formation of tolerant relations among young people, prevention of extremism and terrorism, perception of the world as a positive process;

- fostering the culture of interethnic communication among young people;

- development of friendly relations between young people of different countries;

- creating conditions for strengthening interethnic harmony;

- activation of cultural, scientific and social aspects of international interaction;

- providing adaptive, informational and social support to foreign students studying at TSMU.

The organization of the International Friendship Club will be carried out at the Department of Russian Language, which for 60 years has been conducting versatile and multifaceted educational work with foreign students. Foreign students living in Russia know that spring in our country is not just a season. This is the time when, after a cold and snowy winter, nature wakes up again, the sun begins to shine brightly and warmly, filling us with vital energy and the desire for active actions.

Following the traditions, students and teachers of our university have just met spring with festive events: they have already celebrated "Maslenitsa" with pancakes and dances, then International Women's Day, and have held sports competitions as well.

However, the most important thing for our students is still studying. Moreover, this spring brought good news for future doctors as well.

Finally, after the removal of all the remaining Covid-19 restrictions, students again have the opportunity not only to study medicine at the university, but also to visit hospitals and gain important knowledge in practice, communicating with colleagues and patients.

The Rope pulling competitions among international students of the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry of Tver State Medical University were organized on March 19 in the gymnasium of the University with the assistance of the Department of Russian language.

Students from Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Jordan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia participated in the competition.

The participants of the competition were divided into four teams. The winner was determined in a fair fight, it was the Sri Lankan team.

The Rope pulling is an official sport of the World Games (international complex competitions in sports not included in the Olympic Games program organized every 4 years, since 2001 they have been held under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee).

The Rope pulling is a traditional game of many peoples of the world, who held it on national holidays and celebrations. To win this sporting event, you need to pull the rope to your side twice. In this sport it is necessary to have a high level of general physical strength, endurance, good coordination.

Holi (Hindi), also known as Phagwah (or Bhojpuri) is an annual popular Hindu spring festival, otherwise called the Festival of Colors. A kind of New Year. The beginning of a new rebirth of nature, the feast of the God of Fertility. This festival is celebrated in late February - early March and lasts for 2 days. In the Hindu calendar, Holi usually falls on a full moon.

Colorful rituals in honor of the celebration support the ancient traditions of the Indian people. People decorate themselves on this day with fresh flowers of different colors, give each other gifts, and treat each other with sweets. Roofs of buildings are also decorated with small lights and flags of bright orange color that symbolize fire.

On March 4, the festival "Pancake Kaleidoscope" took place in Tver State Medical University as part of the celebration of Broad Maslenitsa, which was attended by students of our university from different parts of the world.

The celebration was organized by the Department of Russian Language, and the event was led by the Head of the Department Angelika Alimovna Kuznetsova and Associate Professor Natalia Dmitrievna Mikhailova.

March 8 - International Women's Day or World Women's Day. On this day, in addition to honoring the beautiful half of humanity, we also celebrate the achievements of women in the political, economic and social fields, celebrates the past, present and future of women of our planet.

The modern celebration of Women's Day no longer has the goal of asserting equality (as it was originally), but is considered to be a day of spring, feminine beauty, tenderness, spiritual wisdom and attention to a woman, regardless of her status and age.

The festival is celebrated by the United Nations, and in Russia it is a national holiday. On this day, men congratulate women, say words of gratitude, give flowers and gifts.

The meetings were held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The participants of the events got acquainted with the history of the creation and development of student cricket teams. Sri Lankan fans - 1st year students - were solemnly accepted into the group of the supporters of the "CEYLON" and "SERANDUB" teams. Sri Lankan students demonstrated their creativity and skills by performing at the concert and taking part in competitions.

Dear students, dear parents!

As far as you know, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Donbass.

We have several messages from our students and their parents about the safety of foreign students in Tver. We declare responsibility that Tver is absolutely safe city. We are located about 5000 km far from the military area. Nowadays it’s totally quiet and peaceful in Tver as we feel the first spring days.

We have questions from students about payments. As far as US government announced some economic sanctions to the Russian banks, we ask parents and students to transfer money only after receiving an additional information about the accounts of our university. This information could be provided by various ways: Dean’s office, social media, official site, different messengers and chats. Please before you make payment, ensure you use correct information about the accounts of the Tver Medical State University.

In our city we have good news about COVID-19 infection. QR-codes are no longer required.

In our university, we want our students to be safe. That is why the lectures still could be held online. But we can’t teach full course of Medicine distantly as this is a science that can’t be taught without direct contact with patients. That’s why many hospitals and university clinics start to open their departments for students of city of Tver.

We are sure that in March almost all practical classes and lectures will be offline. We also remind you, that in Tver foreign students can be vaccinated using Sputnik-light vaccine. It’s available in Avaeva centre.

Maslenitsa is one of the favorite Russian holidays. Teachers of the Department of Russian Language of TSMU prepared and held a cultural event "Broad Maslenitsa!" on February 24, on the eve of Shrovetide Week, which was attended by Russian and international students of the 1st year of the faculties of Medicine, Pediatrics and Pharmacy from Benin, Egypt, India, Iran, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.

Russian linguistic and culturological lesson-presentation "Broad Maslenitsa!" allowed international students to get acquainted with the history and culture of this ancient Russian holiday – symbols, entertainment, games, features of Russian national cuisine, as well as expand their vocabulary. Students learned the meaning of proverbs and sayings related to Maslenitsa. Fragments of the best Russian films and musical works related to Maslenitsa were presented at the lesson. At the end of the lesson, the students tasted delicious pancakes.

The event was attended by the Vice-rector for Academic and Educational Work of TSMU L.A. Murashova, Vice-rector for International Affairs of TSMU R.N. Chirkov, Head of the Center for International Education of TSMU A.G. Ivanov, Head of the Department of Russian Language of TSMU A.A. Kuznetsova.

The event, prepared and conducted by the teachers of the Department of Russian Language, contributed to the social and cultural adaptation of students, the formation of their general cultural competencies, as well as the education of tolerance in interethnic relations, respect for the culture of the country of the language they learn.

February 21 is the International Mother Language Day. This holiday was proclaimed at the UNESCO General Conference in 1999 and is celebrated annually because it promotes linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism around the world, protects endangered languages, strengthens solidarity between the peoples of our planet based on mutual understanding and tolerance.

Traditionally, numerous events are held within the framework of the holiday, united by a certain theme. "Using technology in Multilingual learning: Challenges and Opportunities" is the theme of Mother Language Day 2022, which highlights the role of technology for the development of multilingual education and ensuring quality teaching and learning for all.

The International Mother Language Day is very relevant for TSMU, because people of different cultures and native languages study and teach at our university. Among these languages are Russian, Sinhala, Hindi, Uzbek, Vietnamese, Arabic, French, Azerbaijani and many others. Each of them is unique and reflects the mentality and spiritual traditions of the people. Indeed, the native language is the greatest gift in the life of any nation, a special cultural wealth given to a person from birth, so it is everyone's duty to love, study, cherish, and develop their native language.

The Day of Memory of A.S. Pushkin is celebrated annually on the 10th of February. Events dedicated to this date begin at 14:45: exactly at this hour in 1837 the heart of the great poet of Russia stopped. During his short but brilliant life, Pushkin created many outstanding works that influenced Russian and world culture. He went down in history as the creator of the Russian literary language.
Traditionally, exhibitions of modern editions of Pushkin's works are organized on February 10, documentaries and films about the poet's life and work are demonstrated, readings of excerpts of the poet's works are arranged. This tradition was also supported by international students of Tver State Medical University. On this day we could hear the beautiful poems of Pushkin performed by medical students from Morocco, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Mozambique and other countries, who was reading it within our university walls. These poems are understandable  because they are filled with vitality and give food for deep thought.

On the 8^th of February we celebrate the Day of Russian Science - a holiday of scientists and students who have decided to devote their lives to research activities. The history of the holiday dates back to the XVIII century, the date of the foundation of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Academic University in St. Petersburg in 1724, established by order of Emperor Peter I. Initially, the Academy of Sciences was called the Academy of Sciences and Arts, in 1925 it was renamed the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in 1991 - the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1999, in commemoration of the 275th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Sciences in Russia, the Day of Russian Science was established. Russia has given the world many great scientists - M.V. Lomonosov, K. E. Tsiolkovsky, I.P. Pavlov, D. I. Mendeleev, N.I. Pirogov, I.V. Kurchatov and many other outstanding scientists whose unique scientific discoveries have had a huge impact on the development of all humanity.

Every year since 2005, February 4 is celebrated as World Cancer Day, proclaimed by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). Cancer is a general term for a large group of diseases that can affect any part of the human body and is one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

World Cancer Day is designed to draw public attention to this global problem, to raise awareness of the population about cancer as one of the most serious diseases of modern civilization, namely: attention to early prevention, screening and modern treatment of oncological diseases. It is known that the main and reliable way to prevent cancer is not only a genetic predisposition, but also a healthy lifestyle. The pride of modern oncology can rightfully be considered the achievement of stable remission and the cure of cancer patients with early stages of the disease. It is very important to detect cancer as early as possible.

The poster exhibition "The Great Patriotic War through the eyes of international students of TSMU", dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Kalinin from the Nazi invaders, was prepared and conducted by the Department of Russian Language along with Department of Educational Work of TSMU. The event was attended by Russian and foreign students of the 2^nd – 5^th courses of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, teachers and university staff.

Students were working on the posters dedicated to the feat of the soviet people in the great patriotic war from April to September 2020, and then they presented the results at the exhibition, that took place from the 16th of December to the 25th of December, 2020 in the foyer of the TSMU assembly hall. Foreign students depicted on their posters the heroic pages of the Great Patriotic War, told about the heroes of Tver, about their relatives-veterans. "Believe me, people, the whole earth needs this memory! If we forget the war, war will come again"… these lines of the poet R. Rozhdestvensky, quoted in one of the posters, reflect the main idea of the contest - the preservation of the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War.

As a result of the voting taken by Department of Educational Work, the winner of the competition was determined. The poster "Red star" made by first-year students of the Faculty of Dentistry became the best.

In addition, Department of Russian Language held a linguistic and cultural lesson-presentation "The 16^th of December - The Day of the Liberation of Kalinin from the Nazi invaders". On this lesson students learned the history of the Tver region during the war.

The purpose of the event was to form general cultural competencies, social and cultural adaptation of foreign students, to foster tolerance and patriotism, understanding the importance of fighting extremism.

Russian linguoculturological lesson-presentation "Broad Maslenitsa!" (Associate Professor N.D. Mikhailova) allowed foreign students to get acquainted with the history and culture of this ancient Russian Festival: symbols, entertainment, games, features of Russian cuisine– and expand their vocabulary as well. Students learned the meaning of proverbs and sayings: " Not life, but Maslenitsa!", " Every day is not Sunday ", "The first pancake is a lumpy". Fragments of the best Russian films and musical works related to Maslenitsa were presented at the lesson. Then a linguistic competition was held, during which students completed tasks on the topic of the presentation. At the end of the lesson, the students tasted delicious pancakes.

The event, prepared and conducted by the teachers of the Department of Russian Language of TSMU, contributed to the social and cultural adaptation of students, the formation of their general cultural competencies, as well as the education of tolerance in interethnic relations, respect for the culture of the country where they live and study language.

On the last day of Maslenitsa week, on the 14th of March 2021, students from Egypt, Congo, Palestine, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan got acquainted with traditional winter entertainments: they took a ski trip through a snow-covered forest, played snowballs, rode down the hill on tubing. Most of the students who came from warm countries started skiing for the first time on this day. After a fun walk and a traditional photo shoot, international students made tea in a real samovar and said goodbye to the Russian winter with a cup of hot tea and traditional Pancakes.

The purpose of the event - the building of general cultural competencies of future students, social and cultural adaptation, as well as the fostering of tolerance and patriotism - was achieved.

One of the favorite Russian traditions is welcoming spring after having said goodbye to winter. International students of the Preparatory Department of TSMU from Egypt, Congo, Palestine, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan learned about this at a linguistics lesson prepared and conducted by teachers of the Department of Russian Language (responsible assistants N.Y. Gribovskaya and O.A. Poloskova).

On the 12^th of April 2021 we celebrate the 60th year of the first human flight into open space. Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin was the first man in the world to fly into space, having opened the way to the stars for humanity. A cultural event dedicated to his flight was held at the Department of Russian Language and called "The 12^th of April – The Day of Cosmonautics". International students of the Preparatory Department and first-year students of the Faculty of Medicine from Afghanistan, Ghana, Egypt, Congo, Mauritania, Palestine, Syria, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan learned information about this important event that marked the beginning of human space age.

Department of Russian Language of TSMU hosted a cultural event within the framework of the All-Russia action "Day of Unified Actions" aimed at preserving the historical truth about the crimes of the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War, in which Russian and international students of the 1st – 4th courses of the Faculty of Medicine, Pediatrics and Dentistry, teachers of the Department of Russian Language took part from the 12th to the 19th of April.

The purpose of this program is to prepare foreign citizens for university entrance exams. Classes in chemistry and biology are conducted, aimed at systematizing existing knowledge, filling gaps in basic education in these disciplines. The intensive format of the work contributes to the effective preparation for the entrance tests.

Target audience: Foreign citizens who do not speak Russian or have a poor command of it, who plan to get an education at the Tver State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia or another Russian natural science university.

Classes will be held in an online format using interactive platforms TEAMS, MOODLE.

Classes in CHEMISTRY and BIOLOGY are based on the educational programs of national secondary schools.

"Let's go to the museum!" is the name of the mobile photo exhibition, which was visited by first-year students of the medical and dental faculties of TSMU from Iran, Syria, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Tajikistan. On December 16, 2021, students of the preparatory department from Egypt, Israel, Iraq, Yemen, Mauritania, Morocco, Syria, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan took part in an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Kalinin from the Nazi invaders. The event began with a thematic lesson "Kalinin is ours!" prepared by teachers of the Russian Language Department. During the lesson, assistant N.Y. Gribovskaya told the students about the importance of the Kalinin defensive operation during the Great Patriotic War, about the life of the residents of the city during the occupation, about the victims of the fascist regime.

The Academic Council of Tver State Medical University at the official meeting, this Tuesday, January 18, approved the idea of creating the university Pediatric medical center – the first of its kind such a clinical unit within the university.

​The future Pediatric Center will provide outpatient and advisory assistance to the children's population, as well as carry out educational activities - students of the pediatric faculty will have the long-awaited opportunity to undergo outpatient practice on the basis of the new structure.

Tver State Medical University conducts pre-university training of foreign citizens and stateless persons to master the educational programs of the specialty in the preparatory department and intensive courses using distance learning technologies.

Preparatory department for foreign citizens and stateless persons

The training is conducted in accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation № 1304 dated October 3, 2014 "On approval of the requirements for the development of additional general education programs that provide training for foreign citizens and stateless persons for the development of professional educational programs in Russian."

Full-time study from November 01 to August 31 (including vacation time).

The purpose of this program is to study the Russian language by foreign citizens, the formation their ability and readiness for written and oral communication in Russian, to meet the basic communication needs when communicating with native speakers in social, socio-cultural and partially official business and educational -professional spheres of communication (within the limits determined by the level of language proficiency). In addition, students are taught classes in certain disciplines (chemistry, biology and physics) necessary for studying at a Russian medical university.

The classes study natural science terminology in Russian; systematize the knowledge gained at home; fill in the gaps in the basic education of students in biology, chemistry, physics; deepen the knowledge that is necessary in the study of related disciplines.

The knowledge gained as a result of mastering the educational program contributes to effective preparation for entrance examinations.

Target audience: Foreign citizens who don’t speak or have a poor command of the Russian language, who plan to get an education at the Tver State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia or another Russian university of natural science. Students who have completed the pre-university training program and successfully passed the final exams receive a certificate of the established sample.

The purpose of this program is to prepare foreign citizens for university entrance examinations. Classes in chemistry and biology are conducted, aimed at systematizing existing knowledge, filling gaps in basic education in these disciplines. Intensive Russian Language course

Russian Department of Tver State Medical University, founded in 1962, has 60 years of experience in teaching foreign citizens the Russian language, has highly professional teaching staff, educational and methodological support corresponding to the Federal state standard (FGOS).

Russian as a foreign language intensive course (Elementary-level courses), which is included in the pre-university training program, is designed for those who don’t speak Russian at all and begin to learn it from scratch (Level A0; pan-European scale - A1 (Breakthrough)).

Russian is a language that you can learn to communicate in certain communicative situations, read and understand small texts in Russian, write in Russian, and gain knowledge about Russian culture in a short time.

We offer you the following language programs:

·        Duration of the course - 1.5 months - 70 hours

The study of basic grammar and vocabulary replenishment is combined with intensive conversational practice.

Tver State Medical University!

By order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated 16.03.2021 No. 639-r foreign students from countries with a prosperous epidemiological situation are allowed to enter the territory of the Russian Federation to continue their studies in an in-person classroom format.

Before arriving to Russia foreign students must notify the university about the date of entry at least 10 days before arrival by e-mail indek.tgmu@mail.ru or by messengers, while informing the full name, group number and address of residence in Tver before leaving for their homeland. A quarantine address (isolation) will be provided in the reply letter or message to you.

Not earlier than 3 calendar days before arriving to Russia, the student must make a COVID-19 PCR-test and, if the result is negative, receive a corresponding document in their country in Russian or in English.

Due to the Order №136-p of Government of the Russian Federation the air travel between Russia and India has been restarted. Therefore, the students with valid visas can return to Russia and continue their full-time studies at the university. The Migration Department of the Tver Region has begun issuing invitations for the students with expired visas.

The university has 4 hostels (dormitories) with 1,544 seats.

As a matter of priority, the University provides residential accommodation in hostels to foreign students who enter the territory of the Russian Federation from countries with a visa regime and due to invitation of the University.

When settling, a contract of renting accommodation for the whole period of study is executed.

The University has 2 hostels of residential type. There are one-room apartments for 3 students and two-room apartments for 5 students. The apartments are equipped with a sanitary unit, a bathroom and a kitchen. The hostels have elevators and wireless internet. The entrance to the hostel is guarded. There is a pass system. There are video cameras at the entrance and in the corridors.

There are stores and public transport within walking distance of the hostels.

According to official reports, in the summer of 2020, the Tver State Medical University was removed from the list of universities recognized by the Medical Council of Sri Lanka (SLMC).

The procedure of recognition takes place regularly every five years. The last was in 2016. The fact of early exclusion from the list, of course, could affect the decline image of the Tver State Medical University not only in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, but also all over the World. Currently, 303 students from the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka study at Tver State Medical University, two of them due to direction of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation within the quota for the education of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation. Hundreds of graduates successfully work in Sri Lanka and other countries.

In October 2020, as a result of lengthy negotiations the Tver State Medical University was again recognized by the Medical Council of Sri Lanka. We thank His Excellency Mr. Yury B.Materiy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and to the Republic of Maldives; Mrs. Anastasia Khokhlova, First Secretary and Head of Cultural Branch and Rossotrudnichestvo Mission in Sri Lanka; His Excellency Mr. M. D. Lamawansa, prof., Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation as well as representatives of “Russian Educational Center Ltd” for support and grate assistance in resolving this issue.

The futsal tournament with participation of six international teams of students from Asia, Africa and Europe was held on December 2-9, 2018 at Tver State Medical University.

The «Falcons» became the only team of the tournament that did not lose a single match and deservedly won the 1^st place.

The nomination “The Best Player of the Tournament” was awarded to the 2nd year student Anwar Faizan from India.

The Russian-Indian Conference on Education, organized by the Embassy of India in Moscow, took place on February 26, 2018 at the Russia Today International News Agency. The objective of the conference was to discuss various issues relating to educational cooperation between India and Russia with a view to strengthening it further.

The conference was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Russia H.E. Mr. Pankaj Saran, Minister of Education and Community Welfare of the Embassy of India in Moscow Mr. Alok Raj, Indian diplomats, top administrators and leaders of the Russian universities, community members, students from India and other stakeholders.

The Tver State Medical University was represented by the Dean for International Students Ms Ekaterina A. Belyaeva, who spoke on adaptation of Indian students to educational environment of a medical university.

Following active deliberations, the conference succeeded in giving a new impulse to the long-standing educational cooperation between India and Russia.

The delegation from the University of Saarland, headed by the President of the University Professor Manfred Schmitt, visited the Tver State Medical University from November 2-5, 2017.

Kalinkin and the President of the University of Saarland Prof. M. Schmitt signed the agreement on the continuation of inter-institutional cooperation on Erasmus + Program until 2019, and the agreement on the protection of personal data of

participants of academic exchange programs.
The German delegation visited the clinic of the TverSMU, taking part in the round table discussion of the prospects for scientific cooperation in the following directions: "Laboratory of personalized medicine" (reported by Prof. M.N. Kalinkin), "New technologies in experimental microsurgery" (reported by Prof. S.I. Sitkin), and "Personalized medicine and treatment of patients with lung cancer" (reported by Dr.  S.V. Dorokhov).
During the conference "Cooperation between Universities of Russia and Germany in the area of ​​science and education" Dr. E. Kluh, who is acting as the coordinator of partnership programs with the countries of Eastern Europe at the University of Saarland, delivered her presentation "Project Erasmus + and other projects of the European Union as a tool for inter-institutional cooperation" to students and academic staff of the Tver State Medical University.

The collaboration of the institutions will continue within the framework of the visit of Prof. S.I. Sitkin (Department of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and

Intensive Therapy) and Prof. S.A. Ulyanovska (Department of Anatomy) to Homburg in November 2017.

Since 2014 Tver State Medical University has been actively participating in events organized by the Association of Sino-Russian Medical Universities.

The main goal of the Association is to represent and protect common professional interests, achieve socially useful goals, as well as consolidate efforts and coordinate collaboration between the leading universities of the Russian Federation, China and other member countries providing education for specialists in medicine and pharmacy.

The June 2017 was highlighted by Prof. Sergey Sitkin’s visit to Harbin Medical University for participation in Sino-Russian conference on higher medical education. The experience he received will open new collaboration opportunities with partners from China and be useful for upgrade of training in anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive therapy for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

In June 2017 Tver State Medical University had the honor to host delegation of the Lebanese University headed by its President Prof.   Fouad Ayoub.

Prof. Fouad Ayoub graduated with excellence from the Faculty of Dental Medicine of Tver State Medical University (KGMI) in 1985. In 1990 he returned to Tver for specialization in forensic medicine.

Since that time he has done the way up to the head of the largest university in Lebanon and one the leading and most reputable university in the Middle East and greater Mediterranean region.

The agreement for inter-university cooperation between Tver State Medical University and the University of Lebanon will promote joint activities the area of science, health and education as the parties involved looking forward to maintaining and enhancing the relationship in times ahead.

In autumn-winter semester of the academic year 2016/2017 the University of Saarland (Germany) hosted two Erasmus Plus scholars from Tver State Medical University. The mobility took place in the frame of the inter-institutional agreement for exchange of students and staff with financial support of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency of the European Commission.

The principal objective of Dr. Alexandr Eremeev’s (Head of Department of Surgery and Urology) two-week visit to Homburg was to foster further cooperation in the field of hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery between the participating institutions.

Dr. Evgeniy Shepel’s (PhD student at Department of Surgery and Urology) four-month practicum included active surgical participation in the General, Visceral and Vascular Surgery.

The involved institutions looking forward to maintaining and enhancing the Erasmus Plus relationship in times ahead.

Tver State Medical University and University of Saarland (Germany) signed inter-institutional agreement for the exchange of students and staff in the context of the Erasmus+ Programme.

The Erasmus+ aims to support actions in the fields of education, training, youth and sport for the period 2014-2020. Erasmus+ replaces the previous programmes bringing together: The Lifelong Learning Programme, The Youth in Action Programme, The Erasmus Mundus Programme, Alfa, Edulink, Tempus, etc. The Erasmus+ gives opportunities to students, trainees, staff and volunteers to spend a period abroad to increase their skills and employability. It supports organizations to work in transnational partnership and to share innovative practices in the fields of education, training and youth.  Erasmus+ also includes a strong international dimension (cooperation with partner countries) notably in the field of higher education, which opens the programme to institutional cooperation and mobility of young people and staff worldwide. The centralized actions are managed at a European level by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) located in Brussels, the decentralized actions are managed in each programme country by National Agencies that are appointed by their national authorities.

The TRAININCOMING Project of the University of Parma offers 30 grants to carry out a traineeship period at the University of Parma. The program is reserved for students coming from overseas universities having a running cooperation agreement with the University of Parma. The goal of the initiative is to consolidate the collaboration with partner universities and to make internationalization processes more concrete and measurable by participating students.

In the framework of the cooperation agreement with the University of Parma postgraduate student of the Department of Surgery Timur Valiev participated in the exchange program from October 17 to December 19, 2015. During this period Timur Valiev had traineeship in the surgical departments of the University of Parma. In addition to professional medical content of the program, courses of Italian language and culture were organized for participants from various countries. 

On May 13, 2014 Tver State Medical Academy had pleasure to host delegation of the Tanzanian People's Defence Force headed by Major General A.S. Mwabulanga, Chief of Medical Service of the TPDF, and Brigadier General M.A. Shinyambala, Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Moscow.

The delegation made acquaintance with the history and current status of Tver State Medical Academy, the educational process and teaching curriculums, conditions and terms of admission and studies for foreign nationals. The special area of interest of the Tanzanian delegation was teaching of emergency medicine and disaster medicine in TverSMA.

The counterparts expressed mutual interest for potential cooperation in the following directions: training of medical students for the TPDF, collaboration in research and exchange of technology, exchange of practical experience in various areas of theoretical and clinical medicine.

Tver State Medical Academy and the University of Parma, Italy have signed a three-year cooperation agreement. According to the agreement, the universities will work together in the areas of academic and student’s mobility, clinical and fundamental research, and joint applications for international funding opportunities.

The University of Parma is one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in the 12th century. Currently the university has 12 faculties, 30000 students and 2000 faculty and staff members.

The Russian German Medical Summer School is an annual event organized by Tver State Medical Academy and University of Saarland in Tver and Homburg. While content of School may differ every year, the permanent and principal aim is to provide students with a leading learning experience in the key areas of medicine, as well as to facilitate international communication of youth from the two collaborating universities.

The second Russian German Medical Summer School was hosted by Tver State Medical Academy from September 9 till September 14, 2013. 20 students from TverSMA and University of Saarland were brought together for comprehensive study of selected urgent conditions in internal medicine and surgery under guidance of experienced professors from Tver and Homburg. The conditions were discussed in detail in respect with their pathogenesis, evidence-based approaches in diagnosis and treatment, and the participants had opportunity to improve their practical skills during sessions with the use of modern dummies. One of the important features of the Summer School 2013 was the field trip to the mobile hospital of EMERCOM of Russia located in Moscow region.

The next Russian German Medical Summer School is scheduled for 2014 in Homburg, Germany.

Euroanaesthesia 2013 – the annual conference of the European Society of Anesthesiology took place in Barcelona, Spain from June 1-4, 2013. This forum is the platform for exchange of views, ideas, experiences and presentations of research results by leading European specialists in anesthesiology. The event was attended by representative of Tver State Medical Academy Prof. S.I. Sitkin, head of department of anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive therapy, who delivered presentations on the recent research at his department on the following subjects:

The Cambridge University Students’ Union and the experts of the St. James’s House exclusively selected Tver State Medical Academy among all Russian medical universities for its constant dynamic development, historical heritage and recent achievements, diversity of students’ community, as well as the quality of international academic connections. The Guide emphasizes the level of teaching, thrilling clinical and research opportunities for future doctors at TverSMA, and highlights advantages of studying medicine in Tver.

Regional master-class in urology with international participation took place in Vishniy Volochek (Tver region) from January 31 to February 2, 2013. This event was jointly organized by Tver State Medical Academy and the Central district hospital of Vishniy Volochek.

The program was conducted and attended by specialists of TverSMA, medical practitioners from several hospitals of the Tver region, and two urologists of the Clinic for Urology and Pediatric Urology of the Catholic hospital in Erfurt, University of Jena, Germany, with which Tver State Medical Academy has been keeping partnership for the recent several years.

The agenda of the master-class included 5 demonstrations of surgeries, 3 reports and session of professional discussions. The Russian and German participants of the program gave high evaluation for its content, organizational level and rich opportunities for professional networking.

The delegation of Tver State Medical Academy visited the West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov State Medical University (Kazakhstan) on October 17-19, 2012. TverSMA has been implementing joint research and educational projects together with the West Kazakhstan State Medical University since 2009.

The recent visit to Kazakhstan was highlighted by signing a new cooperation agreement that will provide significant opportunities for collaboration primarily in microbiology and dental medicine.

Congratulations from Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Sri Lanka on the 50th Anniversary of Training of International Students.

The first surgical Summer School jointly organized and carried out by the University of Saarland and Tver State Medical Academy took place in Homburg, Germany from September 16 to September 23, 2012. The University of Saarland and Tver State Medical Academy are partners since 1995, in May 2012 the cooperation agreement was extended.

During the practical classes and lectures that were conducted in English 10 students of TverSMA together with their 10 German counterparts had remarkable opportunity to master the modern techniques of surgery, anesthesiology and intensive care.

The sessions of the Summer School took place at the surgery rooms, simulation classes, surgical wards and intensive care units; high definition video records of operations and surgical procedures as well as clinical cases were studied and analyzed by the students and their teachers. The participants of the School were acquainted with the modern suture techniques, fixation, arthroscopy of shoulder and knee joints, abdominal sonography, methods of artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

On May 26 - 28, 2012 Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Sri Lanka Nandimitra Ekanayake made 3 days visit to Tver State Medical Academy. During the visit he was accompanied by Dr. Amarakoon Lasantha, graduate of Tver State Medical Academy and currently director of the Russian Educational Center in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The intensive professional program included meetings of Mr. Nandimitra Ekanayake with the Rector of Tver State Medical Academy Prof. Mikhail N. Kalinkin and administration of the Academy, leading professors and tutors, visits to classes with participation of Sri Lankan students, general meeting with 119 students from Sri Lanka studying at Tver State Medical Academy, familiarization with the Academy’s teaching, research and social infrastructure available for students, including the hostels and teaching clinics.

For many years Tver State Medical Academy has been the leading destination for young citizens of Sri Lanka wishing to study medicine in Russia and countries of the Eastern Europe. The meeting of the students with the Deputy Minister was a unique opportunity for direct communication and discussion of a broad range of issues related to the academic studies and student’s life in Tver. Representing opinion of the student’s community Mr. Vayendara Manoj of the 6th year, Faculty of General Medicine, shared his experience at TverSMA and conveyed gratitude of the students to the Academy, the Government of Sri Lanka, and the Russian Educational Center.

International workshop for young scientists on "Methodology of planning and conduction of scientific research by young scientist” took place at Tver State Medical Academy on May 25, 2012. The workshop was held by Prof. W. Specht, University of Saarland (Germany), Honorable Professor of Tver State Medical Academy.

The working languages of the workshop used by the speakers, presenters and the audience were German, Russian and English.

Participants of the workshop, including Russian and international students of all levels of educations and academic staff of the academy, methodologically evaluated two research designs presented by students of TverSMA on the topics of the effects of genetic polymorphism on expression of micro-RNA in atherogenesis,  anatomical variety of structure of kidneys.

The workshop was conducted in the frame of the cooperation agreement of Tver State Medical Academy and University of Saarland.

The delegation of Tver State Medical Academy consisting of the Rector Prof. M. N. Kalinkin and the Vice-Rector for Information Technologies, Licensing and Accreditation Mr. N. I. Dusko visited the University of Saarland (Germany) on May 14-19, 2012.

During the visit the Rector of Tver State Medical Academy Prof. M. N. Kalinkin and the President of the University of Saarland Prof. B. Linneveber signed a cooperation agreement that will provide new significant opportunities for educational, scientific and cultural collaboration of Tver State Medical Academy and University of Saarland. The new agreement is based on the previous agreement between the academy and the university signed in March 1995.

Addressing the academic staff of the University of Saarland at his presentation, Prof. M.N. Kalinkin conducted evaluation of the results of the long-term inter-institutional cooperation and offered his vision on directions for further joint activities. The delegation of Tver State Medical Academy also visited the university clinics and institutes of neurology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, genetics, dentistry, experimental medicine, and the Medical Assembly of Saarland.

During the visit the Russian and German counterparts agreed to launch a new project – annual joint Summer Schools for Russian and German students at the University of Saarland and Tver State Medical Academy.

The Russian Education Fair-2012 was opened on May 17, 2012 at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi, India. Opening the Exhibition, Mr. F.A. Rozovskiy, Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, noted that this annual event provides a perfect opportunity for Indian students to pursue their higher studies in different faculties of various universities of Russia, and enables the peoples of both countries to come closer with stronger relations.

It is estimated that almost 80 percent of Indian students come for medical studies to Russia. Over 800 of them are presently undergoing medical courses at Tver State Medical Academy. Dr. Sayed Kamruzzaman, Deputy Dean of International Faculty of Medical Education of Tver State Medical Academy, observed that Russian universities offer educational services and forms that allow them to be competitive in India: for instance, Tver State Medical Academy annually invites Indian professors to assist senior students in their preparations for the Medical Council of India screening test which is mandatory for graduates of all foreign medical universities, currently 97 percent of Indian graduates of Tver State Medical Academy pass the screening test at their first attempt.

The Exhibition will take place in all the major Indian cities.

To celebrate the 65th anniversary of Russian-Indian diplomatic relations Tver State Medical Academy, Embassy of India in Moscow and Indian students of Tver State Medical Academy organized the annual festival of the Indian culture Rangoli-2012 on April 20, 2012 in the premises of TverSMA.

The event was attended by 500 guests, including Governor of the Tver Region Mr. A.V. Shevelev, Ambassador of India to Russia H.E. Mr. Ajai Malhotra and Rector of Tver State Medical Academy Prof. M.N. Kalinkin, and many other reputed persons who contribute to development of Russian-Indian educational and cultural ties.

First medical students from India arrived to Tver 50 years ago. Since that time Tver State Medical Academy has become the university of first choice for young Indians who wish to study medicine in Russia. At present TverSMA has the maximum number of Indian students among all universities of the Russian Federation.

The Rector of Tver State Medical Academy Prof. M.N. Kalinkin and the Ambassador of India to Russia H.E. Mr. Ajai Malhotra had a fruitful professional meeting before beginning of the cultural program. Cooperation in the fields of science, education and culture was discussed during the meeting with participation of the representatives of the academy administration and members of the Indian delegation.

Our Academy is celebrating the 75th anniversary. We have rich history. The annals of TverSMA have brilliant names of the founders of the Leningrad dental community, its students and followers, who had become the professionals establishing the research directions of the Kalinin Medical Institute. Our Alma mater is the successor to the traditions and the higher education system of St. Petersburg – nowadays we successfully meet its original high requirements for intellectual and ethical standards of medical profession.

It is impossible to overemphasize the role of Leningrad Dental Institute in the history of Leningrad health care: training of dental doctors of various profiles, establishment of scientific and research facilities of the highest level, professionalism of its faculty, graduates and students during the Great Patriotic War including the time of the siege of Leningrad, revival of medical science, practice and education in devastated postwar Leningrad. In 1954 they left their beautiful home city for Kalinin to establish a new medical school.

Remembering the history of our academy we give our tribute to dedication of people who made the foundation for complicated processes of diverse activities of the higher education institution in the new location. Following the legacy of our teachers we define our tasks in not only spreading the knowledge and teaching the profession, but also to bring a sense of compassion, selfless service, and encourage the new generation to participate actively in revival of Russian greatness.

Today Tver State Medical Academy is a modern institution of higher education with high ranking among universities of Russia and overseas universities. It is also the famous academic schools, outstanding names of tutors and scientist, doctors. Our graduates work in dozens of Russian cities and abroad. Feedbacks with gratitude for their work that the academy receives demonstrate its great scientific and applied potential. Recently Tver State Medical Academy has been included to the Golden Book of St. Petersburg.

Contemporary realities of Russia’s development determine the great diversity of innovative programs that TverSMA is involved with. In October 2011, University of Saarland (Germany) hosted a delegation of Tver State Medical Academy, introducing its members, through clinical rounds and workshops, research experiments, participation in surgical operations and examination of patients to practical life of our partner university. Ophthalmic surgeons of TverSMA participated in keratoplasty surgery with the use of the femtosecond lasers based on the latest innovations in nanotechnology, together with their German counterparts they also discussed development of the corneal eye bank in Tver.

In addition to that, representatives of fundamental departments of our collaborating institutions highlighted priorities and challenges in development of joint research projects in human genetics and medical biology.

Tver State Medical Academy and University of Saarland (Germany) jointly conducted international workshop on “Nanotechnology in Dental Medicine” on October 3-4, 2011 at Tver State Medical Academy.

The Europe's leading specialist in the field of nanotechnology in dental medicine, Vice-President of the University of Saarland Prof. Dr. Matthias Hanning opened the workshop with presentation on nanomaterial in preventive dentistry. His colleague from the University of Saarland Assistant Professor Dr. Stefan Rupf spoke about the use of modern nanoadhezive systems and composite nanomaterial in clinical practice and studies of dental plaque at molecular level. The second day of the workshop included master class in the premises of the dental clinic of TverSMA.

The workshop was broadcasted to Moscow and Torzhok allowing specialists of these cities to participate actively in its work.

The 2nd Balkan Forum on «Innovative Technologies in Health Care» took place in Nesebar, Republic of Bulgaria on September 29 – October 2, 2011.  The forum was organized by the Association of Physicians of the Balkan countries and the Black Sea Coast — the alliances created by initiative of public organizations of Bulgaria and Russia aiming to developing professional relations, scientific and educational exchanges and mutual increase of the medical care.

This year more than 200 leading specialist from Russia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Georgia and Kazakhstan attended the workshops on anesthesiology and intensive care, endocrinology, drug and alcohol abuse, otorhinolaryngology, tuberculosis and pulmonology.

Professor S.I. Sitkin of Tver State Medical Academy, Head of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Therapy Department of TverSMA and chief anesthesiologist-resuscitator of the Ministry of Health of the Tver region presented report on the "Use of long-term epidural analgesia in preparation for surgery in patients with chronic pancreatitis and severe pain."

International Forum "Ethics and Mercy of Medical Community" has opened in Tver on September 29, 2011. The event is organized by joint efforts of the bodies of the Russian Orthodox Church, Society of the Russian Orthodox Doctors, Government of the Tver Region, and Tver State Medical Academy. Together with their Russian colleagues representatives of Belarus, Latvia, Moldova and Ukraine participate in the forum as well.

The organizing committee has stated that the principle goal of the forum is effective unification of efforts of doctors and clergymen of the Russian Orthodox Church that should contribute to improvement of health in Russia.

The congress will discuss variety of issues related to family, motherhood and childhood, ethics and moral dilemmas in the modern medical community, the role of the Russian Orthodox doctors and nurses in dealing with complicated health and social problems.

The International Forum "Ethics and Mercy of Medical Community" will last until October 1. Following the discussions the participants will approve an ethical code of Orthodox medical professionals that will guide them in their professional activities.

The European Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Therapy (ESRA) was founded in 1980 to further regional Anesthesia in Europe. The first congress was held in Edinburgh in 1982 and since that year the society has gone from strength to strength, with a current membership of over 2000 throughout Europe. The scientific standard at the annual ESRA congress is now recognized as one of the best in Europe, and as a result carries a high rating with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, who now assigns credit hours to all ESRA congresses.

A multi-disciplinary international group of 1500 healthcare providers who specialize in regional anesthesia for surgery, obstetrics, and pediatrics attended the 30th Annual European Society for Regional Anesthesia Congress that took place in Dresden, Germany from September 7 to September 10, 2011.

The agenda of the forum included issues of ambulatory anesthesia, anesthesia in obstetrics, oncology, pediatrics, peripheral nerve blocks, neuraxial blockade, and complications of regional anesthesia, treatment of acute and chronic pain. Participants had an opportunity to gain practical experience, share and explore the latest clinical evidence, best practices and industry updates.The Russian delegation consisted of 32 doctors, scientists and representatives of medical industry. It should be said that representative of Tver State Medical Academy Professor S.I. Sitkin, Head of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Therapy Department of TverSMA was the first Russian specialist to present his research at the ESRA congresses. His report on "Using prolonged epidural analgesia in preparation to operative treatment of patients having chronic pancreatitis with severe pain syndrome" in the section "Chronic pain" caused strong interest of the international community of colleagues.

You have become freshmen of the prestigious international university Tver State Medical Academy – the oldest institution of higher professional education of the Tver region with long and glorious traditions. It is remarkable that this year is highlighted by 75th Anniversary of the Academy. Here there are all facilities necessary to become highly qualified doctor or pharmacist, medical worker of the third millennium. The start has been taken and the first milestone has been successfully passed. Ahead of you there are 5 or 6 years of studies, internal personal revelations, discoveries in science and friendship - the road of formation of your personalities and destiny. The 6th annual Russian Education Fair - 2011 was opened on May 12 at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in New Delhi. The large-scale presentation of the Russian educational institutions was organized by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India, Representative office of the Federal Agency for Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation, Russian Center of International Education, and Association of Russian Universities Working in India.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition Rector of the Tver State Medical Academy and President of the Association of Russian Universities Working in India Prof. Mikhail N. Kalinkin stated that the goal of the event is to present the diversity of opportunities that the Russian educational market can offer: “Although majority of the Indian citizens move to Russia for medical education, we would like to pay attention of the younger Indian generation on the advantages of the technical education in Russian universities as well”.

Along with the Tver State Medical Academy, the exhibition was attended by Moscow Power Engineering Institute, Moscow Aviation Institute, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Mari State Technical University, Russian Peoples' Friendship University, St. Petersburg Sate Medical Academy named after Mechnikov, Volgograd State Medical University and other universities.

After the exhibition kick-off in New Delhi, the Russian delegation visited the cities of Chennai and Ahmedabad.

Associate Professor of the Department of General Medical Practice, Prevention and Evidence-Based Medicine of the Tver State Medical Academy A. A. Rodionov took part in international program on “Nutrition in a Changing Global Environment” (February 21 - March 17, 2011) conducted jointly by the Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation - MASHAV and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) at the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the Hebrew University campus in Rehovot.

The tuition fee, accommodation and living expenses were covered by the grant from MASHAV given to Dr. Rodionov on a competitive basis.

The course focused on physiological nutritional needs of different population groups, dietary recommendations, long term affects of diet on health, critical evaluation of nutritional studies, and community awareness on the appropriate food choices. The international audience of the course included faculty members, government’s members and advisors, representatives of NGOs and business. In the context of the course Dr. Rodionov presented his project on nutrition and health in the Tver region.

The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 by the U.S. Congress to "enable the government of the United States to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries". With support of the U.S. Department of State, the Program is offering opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, and internships at the universities of the United States and worldwide. The Fulbright Program, a key mechanism for facilitating educational and cultural exchange and diplomacy between the United States and Russia, has been represented within the Bilateral Presidential Commission on Education, Culture, Mass Media and Sport, created by President Medvedev and President Obama in 2009.

The Russian International Education Administrators Program is open to Russian university administrators who work with international students and responsible for international affairs at their universities.

Prof. S.I. Sitkin (Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care) of the Tver State Medical Academy undertook a seven-day professional visit to the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA) where with a group of Russian colleagues he participated in a conference on “Modern aspects of neuroreanimation, intensive care and artificial lung ventilation”.

In addition Prof. Sitkin took part in a professional workshop conducted in the premises of the USC hospital.

A 10-day Russian-Israeli workshop on “Management Policy and Leadership in Nursing” has taken place at the Tver State Medical Academy aiming at students of the Faculty of Advanced Nursing Education of the Tver State Medical Academy. The students have had an opportunity to discuss with the visiting lectures from the Ministry of Health of the State of Israel Ms Ella Koren, RN, MSEd, PhD and Ms Hanna Tsofnat RN, MPA a broad variety of topics related to modern nursing practice, such as:

• health promotion

• critical thinking

• ethical thinking

• role of a nurse in a health care system

• evidence-based nursing

• management of conflicts

• methods of teaching and communication

The lectures
have also explained the Israeli health care model to the audience and
have shared their personal practice experience. The workshop was mainly
built on intensive communication processes between the teachers and
their students, group presentations, open discussions, tests, and role
play simulations.

MASHAV announces the opening of a training and capacity building course entitled “Nutrition in a Changing Global Environment” for participants from developing countries. The course will be held in Israel from February 21 – March 17, 2011.

The course is designed for public health practitioners, nutritionists, dietitians, health educationists, and academicians in relevant fields with at least 3 years of relevant work experience and good knowledge of English.

Scholarships are available from MASHAV to cover the fee for study. The scholarship covers tuition, board, lodging and travel in Israel required for the purposes of the program of studies. This fee does not include travel costs to and from the home countries or incidental expenses.

At the last regular meeting of the Nepal Dental Association, held on September 4, 2010 in Kathmandu, the graduate of the Tver State Medical Academy Dr. Situ Lal Shrestha was elected as the vice-president of the Central Executive Committee of the Association.

Qawwali concert by the “Sabri Brothers” took place at Tver State Medical Academy on October 23, 2010. 

Qawwali is a form of Sufi devotional music popular in South Asia, particularly in areas with a historically strong Muslim presence, such as Pakistan, especially Punjab and Sindh, and parts of North India. It is a musical tradition that stretches back more than 700 years. The roots of Qawwali can be traced back to 8th century Persia. During the first major migration from Persia, in the 11th century, the musical tradition of Sema migrated to South Asia, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Amir Khusro Dehelvi of the Chisti order of Sufis is credited with fusing the Persian and Indian musical traditions to create Qawwali as we know it today in the late 13th century in India. The word Sama is often still used in Central Asia and Turkey to refer to forms very similar to Qawwali. The poetry of Qawwali is implicitly understood to be spiritual in its meaning, even though the lyrics can sometimes sound wildly secular, or outright hedonistic. Qawwalis tend to begin gently and build steadily to a very high energy level in order to induce hypnotic states both among the musicians and within the audience.

 The Salzburg Medical Seminars International (SMSI) are a post-graduate medical educational program for highly qualified physicians from Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia, Mongolia and other countries in transition. The one week seminar on “Pediatric Gastroenterology” ( October 3 – 9, 2010) was organized by the Salzburg Stiftung of the American Austrian Foundation and co-funded by the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research and the Open Society Institute. The seminar covered subjects of new technologies in endoscopy, foreign bodies and caustic ingestions, inflammatory bowel disease, cystic fibrosis, celiac disease, polyps, gastroesophageal reflux and eosinophilic esophagitis, cholestatic liver disease with children, cow’s milk allergy and food intolerance, metabolic and autoimmune liver disease, diarrhea, malabsorbtion and failure to thrive, viral hepatitis, pancreatic and gallstones, liver failure, short gut and bacterial overgrowth, functional constipation, cyclic vomiting, and gastrointestinal bleeding. As an essential part of the seminar all students presented cases of their clinical practice.

The concert will take place at Tver State Medical Academy on October 23, 2010 at 16.00.

The first group of twenty-five Indian students, who are leaving for Russia tonight for higher studies in medicine at the Tver State Medical Academy, Russian Federation, were given a warm farewell by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture on September 27. The Indian students will undergo the medical course in English as the medium of instruction.

Addressing the Indian students, accompanied by their parents, hailing from six states of North India, Mr. Fyodor A. Rozovskiy, Director, RCSC, dwelt upon the well-acclaimed and widely recognized quality of medical education and highest standard of teaching staff of the Tver Medical Academy. He referred to the considerably large number of students already graduated from the Academy now serving in different parts of the world.

Mr. Rozovskiy exhorted the students to be rest assured of all facilities, congenial learning atmosphere, and proper guidance in the Tver State Medical Academy. He urged the students to concentrate on studies and become competent medical professionals serving their country.

The public debate around health care and the provision of health and social services in Europe has become increasingly controversial and has revealed an urgent need for change and reform. In response to this debate the European Forum Alpbach in August 2010 conducted the third Summer School “Health Care & Social System” in collaboration with the Vienna School of Clinical Research.

This professional training course was scheduled to run in tandem with the Forum Alpbach 2010 and was aimed at future decision-makers in the health care sector. The curriculum consisted of lectures, formal and informal discussions, brain-storming sessions, shared-learning, as well as practical exercises in working groups.

Dr. Elena Lunina of the Tver Sate Medical Academy, department of general medical practice, preventive medicine and evidence-based medicine successfully participated in the forum.

As a part of the state certification exam students of the Faculty of Advanced Nursing Education had their theses defense on June 14, 2010.

In the context of cooperation between Tver State Medical Academy and Bicon (USA) assоciate professor of Tver State Medical Academy Dr. Olga B. Davydova (department of dental medicine, faculty of postgraduate education) participated in international conference on implantology in Kiev, Ukraine on May 28-29, 2010.

Presentation of Dr. Davydova covered issues of clinical experience of surgery of short implants and use of opportunities of telemedicne in dental practice.

The annual EFNS Academy took place in Stare Splave, Czech Republic on May 13-16, 2010. The course offered lectures and workshops on movement disorders, autoimmune diseases, spinal cord disorders, and perspectives of neurology for 120 international participants. This year Tver State Medical Academy was represented by fellow of the EFNS Dr. Abramenko Y.V. form TSMA department of neurology and rehabilitation, faculty of postgraduate education.

The emphasis on the meritorious qualities of higher education in Russian universities and other institutions, particularly beneficial to Indian students, was reiterated by a visiting delegation at an Educational Fair, jointly organized by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) and the Russian Centre of International Education (RCIE), at 24, Ferozeshah Road, New Delhi, on May 14.

Welcoming the visiting Russian delegation and students, Mr. Gadzhi M. Akhmedov, Deputy Director, RCSC, underlined the unique features regarding Russian higher education. The most advanced one standard-wise and comparably cheaper one cost-wise, the degrees and diplomas recognized abroad, coupled with English apart from Russian, as medium of instruction, are the major highlights with reference to Russian higher studies, Mr. Akhmedov added.

The eight-member Russian delegation was led by Prof. Bazhenov D. V., Vice Chancellor, Tver State Medical Academy. Underscoring the steadily-growing popularity of higher education in Russia, Prof. Bazhenov of Tver State Medical Academy, said that Russian universities attract a large number of foreign students from all over the world every year. So far, over 90, 000 foreign students, among them 40, 000 Indian students, have successfully completed higher educational courses in Russia. He added that medicine, engineering, Russian language and humanities are the subjects mainly chosen by foreign students. Apart from having highly qualified scientists and professors, the institutions offer much cheaper cost of higher education than in countries such as the US, the UK, etc.

Making people healthy is my job! That was the motto of a competition hold among nurses of out-patient clinic, research and training center of Tver State Medical Acdemy. The competition was dedicated to the International Year of Nurse and the 65th Anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War.

V International Pirogov Scientific Medical Conference of Students and Young Specialists took place on 18 of March, 2010, in Moscow, in the Russian State Medical University.

The Tver State Medical Academy congratulates its student Ushani Jayawardena (Sri Lanka), Faculty of General Medicine, 6th year, who presented report on results of the research “Analysis of prevalence and structure of chromosome diseases in Tverskaya Oblast for the past 6 years” and won 2nd place in the contest.

Students and staff members of the Tver State Medical Academy took part in the concert on occasion of the International Women’s Day, conducted in the premises of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia on March 5, 2010.

Members of the TSMA Cultural Center brought greetings to women of the Ministry on behalf of the Academy.

The regular meeting of the council of the Association “Tvermedobrazovanie” was conducted on March 3, 2010 in the premises of the Tver State Medical Academy. The council consists of representatives of TSMA, nursing schools of Tver, Kimri, Vishniy Volochek, Bezhetsk, Kashin, Rzhev and Tver Regional Department of Health. The Council of the Association is chaired by M. N. Klainkin, Rector of the Tver State Medical Academy.

The meeting approved the plan of events dedicated to the International Year of Nurse — 2010, announced in the frame of the Millennium Development Goals by the UN. In 2010 it is planned to publish a collection of research and academic training papers “2010 — The International Year of Nurse”, to carry out a professional contest “The Best Nurse of TSMA”, to organize scientific conference in collaboration with the E. M. Bakunina Society of Christian Orthodox Doctors, to arrange festivals of arts in nursing schools of the region. One of the most significant points of the events is honoring of nurses — the WWII veterans.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa undertook a three-day official visit to Russia from 6th to 9th February 2010. It is a matter of significance that the first visit abroad by the President Rajapaksa following his decisive victory at the recently concluded presidential election was to Russia.

In Moscow the President met with delegation of the Tver State Medical Academy headed by the Rector Professor Mikhail Kalinkin. For significant contribution to development of bilateral cultural, scientific and educational exchange Rector Kalinkin was presented by the President’s Award of Excellence.

As Rector Kalinkin stated, the Award is recognition of efforts of all staff members of the Academy where presently 150 citizens of Sri Lanka are making their studies.

As a generous gift of President Rajapaksa to students and staff of the Tver State Medical Academy, the National Air Force dancing troop of Sri Lanka will perform cultural program in Tver on February 11, 2010.

Last year the Tver State Medical Academy took part in the European survey “Teaching of cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation in European medical schools 2009” organized and conducted by the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation. This year is highlighted by a remarkable event - celebration of 200^th anniversary birthday of one of the first Russian nurses Ekaterina Mikhailovna Bakunina. Her name is inseparably linked with both history of the Tver land and the history of foundation and development of Russian medicine. 

In the context of the celebrations the Tver State Medical Academy and the Tver Nursing School together with the Society of Orthodox Doctors will held a conference devoted to the life and work of this outstanding Russian woman. The conference will be attended by members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Y.L. Shevchenko, A.G. Chuchalin, S.I. Vorobiev, and President of the Society of Orthodox Doctors A.V. Nedostup.

45 students of the MASHAV course on “Management Policy and Leadership in Nursing” who have successfully completed all its demands were awarded with Russian-Israeli certificates on Friday, December 11.

Classes of the course were conducted by representatives of the Ministry of Health of Israel Ms Ella Koren, RN, MSEd, PhD and Ms Liora Vesterman RN, MPA.

Graduation ceremony of the TSMA - Bicon Dental Impalnts intensive course was held on October 28, 2009 in the conference hall of the Tver State Medical Academy.

Director of the Bicon centre Dr. Vincent Morgan arrived from Boston, MA to greet the graduates personally and to present them with international Russian – American certificates.

The course is based on methods of distant-learning technologies and is the joint effort of trainers from Russia and the US.

According to the World Bank evaluation of the Russian system of health care (“Russia Health Policy”, 2007, The World Bank) role of nurses and nursing in the health care system is underestimated, misunderstood and thus should be reviewed. In addition, nurses, particularly, chief nurses have lack of knowledge in the field of public health, including modern principles of medical management and organizational theory of health care. It is widely recognized that changes and reforms in health services of countries in the transition period require medical staff in general, and nurses in particular, to be familiar with the health policy of the system in which they work and to use advanced methods of management. During the program, students will acquire theoretical know-how and management skills with an emphasis on leadership development.

The course will be held at Tver State Medical Academy. It will start at 9 am on Monday, November 30, 2009 and end at 3 pm on Friday, December 11, 2009.

Traditional meeting of the Rector with international students of the Tver State Medical Academy was held on October, 7 in the main hall of the TSMA.

The Rector raised many issues, including regulations of living in student’s dorms and fire safety.

Rector Kalinkin pointed out that every student of the Tver State Medical Academy has legal right to make appointment with him, the office hours are: Monday 3pm-6pm, Wednesday 3pm-6pm.

Visit of His Excellency Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Mr. Udayanga Weerathunga to Tver State Medical Academy.

Last week, on 25-26 of April, His Excellence Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialistic Republic of Sri Lanka made his 2-day visit to Tver State Medical Academy. During the visit Mr. Udayanga Weerathunga was accompanied by a large group of the diplomatic staff members of the Embassy of Sri Lanka.

Scientific research at the Academy’s departments and units is carried out in many diverse areas of medical sciences.

Our principal breakthrough directions of work are in the fields of biology, chemistry, physiology, general pathology, microbiology, genetics, public health, ophthalmology, abdominal surgery, dental surgery and orthodontics.

Monographs, reference books, textbooks, training aids and collections of scientific theses that reflect all main aspects of scientific work are published by the TSMA and kept in the Academy’s library.

The Academy takes an active part in development and implementation of international, federal and regional scientific projects. The TSMA frequently hosts national and international scientific conferences.

The TSMA staff includes more than 520 professional research workers and tutors, among them - 320 PhDs with completed doctoral research and 80 PhDs with completed postdoctoral research.

The specialized Scientific Board for doctoral and роstdoctoral research reviews and awards degrees in 3 specialties: cardiology, dentistry and surgery. Annually more than 40 doctoral and роstdoctoral theses are defended in the premises o the Academy.

The Students Scientific and Research Association is an important and active unit in the Academy’s research structure. The most distinguished students who demonstrate strong and effective research potential are annually awarded with national and regional scholarships.

The Faculty of Postgraduate Studies was opened in 1989.

Nowadays at the faculty doctors can receive training in various medical specialties, such as obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesiology and reanimatology, ENT, ophthalmology, infections and tropical diseases, cardiology, gastroenterology, immunology and allergology, radiology, physiotheraphy, general surgery, cardiovascular surgery, oncology, psychiatry, trauma and orthopedics, urology, pulmonology, dermatology and STDs, neurology and neurosurgery, endocrinology, public health, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pedodontics, periodontics, inplantantoology, general dental surgery.

Duration of courses is from 2 to 3 years and can be individually scheduled.

In addition departments of the Academy provide annual vocational training for medical professionals from Tver and the Oblast.

More than 15000 doctors from Russia and abroad have completed courses at the faculty and successfully work all other the world.

The Faculty of Advanced Nursing Education was founded on 2003. Its main goal is to fill the urgent and constant demand from nursing service supervisors for highly qualified middle-grade medical workers.

Degree of a nurse is the main entrance requirement for the faculty. The duration of the full-time course is 4 years, part-time — 5 years. Students who complete the course and successfully pass all exams receive the degree of "Manager".

The Faculty provides its students with modern knowledge in the following areas:

• general organization of nursing service;
• effective management of human, financial, technological and scientific resources;
• monitoring and evaluation in nursing;
• scientific research and nursing;
• modern aspects and principles of nurses training.

Although the faculty is relatively young, it has already proved its effectiveness and high competitiveness.

The Pharmaceutical Faculty of the Tver State Medical Acadmey was founded in 2001. The main task of the Faculty is the basic training of specialists in pharmacy for institutions of pharmaceutical industry and educational establishments.

The faculty has two forms of training: full-time (5 years) and part-time (5,5 years).

At the classes tutors use various educational methods such as lectures, discussions, case-studies, simulation of clinical situations, preparation of drafts of research proposals, different means of multi-media and web-based technologies. Students receive knowledge not only in medical subjects but also in marketing, management and commodity research. To enlarge and deepen the knowledge obtained in classrooms all the faculty students should undergo 4 mandatory internships at pharmaceutical institutions of Tver and the neighboring regions.

Graduates of the faculty are employed in state and private pharmacies, pharmaceutical factories and companies, public health bodies, educational institutions, bureaus of forensic medicine and law enforcement agencies.

The Dental Faculty of the TSMA is the oldest dental faculty in Russia. It is the successor of I.A. Pashutin`s Dental School founded in 1902 in St. Petersburg. Nowadays the Tver State Medical Academy is one of the leading and most prestigious places for dental education in Russia and Eastern Europe.

The Faculty of Dental Medicine of the Tver State Medical Academy is:

• more than 800 students;
• 363 tutors;
• 40 departments.

The academic staff of the Faculty includes 9 PhD holders with completed postdoctoral research and 45 PhD holders with completed doctoral research.

Much attention at the Faculty is paid to practical training and sharpening of necessary manual skills. For this purpose the Academy owns the dental clinic where students of the Faculty have full approach to patients under supervision of their teachers.

The duration of professional studies at the Faculty of Dental Medicine is 5 years. Graduates of the Faculty become skilful in modern methods of prevention, diagnostics and treatment of oral cavity diseases in children and adults. They are always in demand in dental clinics of Russia and abroad.

The Faculty of Pediatrics was founded in 1990. More than 300 tutors of 45 departments provide training for 600 students at the Faculty.

The teaching hospital departments of the Faculty are located in the regional hospital, 4 municipal hospitals and 2 municipal polyclinics in Tver. Maternity centers, health centers for children and infectious diseases departments of general hospitals are also used.

Training in 9 clinical subjects (hospital therapy, hospital surgery, trauma and orthopedics, endocrinology, children’s dentistry, radiology, preventive medicine, clinical biochemistry, dermatology and STDs) is provided at the Academy’s own newly constructed clinic.

The TSMA staff members work in cooperation with the regional medical centre for adolescents, regional service of medical genetics and the regional neonatal centre.

Degree of pediatrician enables the faculty graduates to work as a general pediatrician, neonatologist or children’s surgeon. The degree also provides access for a broad variety of postgraduate training courses.

The Faculty of General Medicine was founded in 1954. It is the biggest faculty of the Academy and consists of 45 theoretical and clinical departments located in the main building of the Academy and 10 teaching hospitals.

The total number of student at the Faculty is more than 2000, including 1000 foreign students. The duration of studies is 6 years.

For the first 2,5 years of training students are mainly focused on theoretical subjects at the departments of biology, medical physics, chemistry, biochemistry, human anatomy, histology, physiology, pathology, microbiology, Latin and foreign languages, social sciences. During the last 3,5 years students are offered extensive practical training in various fields of therapy, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, public health and prevention. One of the most distinguished features of our medical education is a full every day student-to-patient contact at all clinical classes. This provides unique opportunity for students to be well skilled in modern diagnostic and treatment approaches.

Development of research skills based on modern methodology and up-to-date equipment is another important part of the program. All departments of the Faculty provide facilities for students to be involved in research under the guidance of the Students Scientific and Research Association led by the tutors from the Faculty.

The teaching staff of the Faculty pays much attention to acquainting students with life-threatening emergency conditions. For this purpose the Academy has organized a special training centre, well-equipped with modern phantoms and computerized models enabling students to simulate different kinds of emergency conditions and learn how to deal with them.

Graduates of the Faculty work in all regions of Russia — from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific Ocean, and world-wide from Canada to Australia.

The history of the Tver State Medical Academy opens up in 1902 when courses for dental students were arranged. In 1936 the Leningrad Dental Institute was founded. In 1954 by decision of the Soviet government the Institute was transferred from Leningrad to the city of Kalinin.

In 1986 the Institute was awarded the prestigious Nations Friendship National Award for outstanding contribution to international education, collaboration and development. In 1994 after renaming of Kalinin to Tver, the Institute was also renamed and got the status of the Academy.

For more than 70 years the Tver State Medical Academy has been playing a leading role in the development of medical science and training of medical practitioners and scientists. It is always among the top 10 Medical Educational Institutions according to the annual official rating of the 48 Russian Medical Educational Institutions. Today it is the largest medical scientific, research and educational centre, noted for its extensive clinical and laboratory base and a brilliant teaching staff. The Tver State Medical Academy is a home for 4700 students simultaneously. Every third student in the Academy is a foreign national. The Academy consists of 63 theoretical and clinical departments. It occupies 6000 beds in 10 various hospitals, including specialized hospitals for oncology, tuberculosis, infectious, skin and sexual transmitted diseases. The Academy owns dental clinic of more than 200 chairs, the clinic considers being one of the best and advanced in the country.

The Academy provides training of specialists not only for Тver and Tver Oblast but also for other regions of Russia — Tula, Bryansk, Novgorod, Pskov, Moscow, Kaluga, Ivanovo, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Vladimir, Murmansk, Vologda, Karelia.

The Tver State Medical Academy is officially recognized by the UN agencies for health care and education. For more than 47 years (since 1962) it has been training specialists for 57 countries of the world. Today teaching in the Academy is conducted in Russian or English.

One of the main aspects of work of the Academy is its clinical activity. Clinical departments of the Academy are integrated to the structure of municipal and regional health care institutions. Main surgical, therapeutic and dental departments in Tver are headed by the Academy professors and associate professors.

Russian language teachers organized and conducted a bus tour to the ancient Russian city of Staritsa and the City of Military Glory Rzhev for foreign students of 1-4 courses on May 12, 2022, as part of the work of the International Friendship Club of Tver State Medical University with the support of the Vice-Rector for International Affairs R.N. Chirkov, Head of the Center for International Education A.G. Ivanov. 54 students took part in the event, the purpose of which is to foster tolerance in interethnic relations, respect for the culture of the country of the language being studied.
